 Prof A Bogale  

Prof Ayalneh Bogale is the 

Director of the African Centre for Food Security.

 

Ayalneh Bogale received his PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from Humboldt University of Berlin in February 2002 and he holds BSc and MSc in Agricultural Economics from Haramaya University, the then Alemaya University of Agriculture, Ethiopia. He has served at Haramaya University with various academic ranks including Lecturer, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor. He has a wide range of experience in handling lectures for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in courses including Microeocomics, Project Planning and Analysis, Forest Economics, Development Economics, and Natural Resources and Environmental Economics.

 

 

He has supervised MSc and PhD students registered at Haramaya University and Humboldt University of Berlin. He has received various research and fellowship awards including Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (2007-2009), Agriculture for Peace Research Fellowship from the International Foundation for Science and the United Nations University- Institute for Advanced Studies, DAAD Scholarship and Nuffic Scholarship.

 

 

He has published refereed articles in, among others, Journal of Development Studies, Land Degradation and Development, Tropical Science, Human Ecology, Ecological Economics, Irrigation and Drainage Systems, Quarterly Journal of International Agriculture, Journal of Rural Development in the Tropics and Sub-tropics and Journal of Rural Development. He has numerous paper contributions to national and international conferences to share his findings from collaborative research projects. His research interests are economics of resource degradation, poverty and food security, property rights, and adoption of technologies. He is currently Associate Professor in Food Security and Director at the African Centre for Food Security (ACFS) at the University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.
